Greetings!

Happy New Year!

As a practicing clinician, I am certain that you are aware of the many challenges that are faced when it comes to delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and culturally competent care in a chaotic health system. Nurse practitioners in New York State face an additional set of arbitrary barriers that prevents us from fully caring for our patients.

Fortunately, The Nurse Practitioner Association New York State (The NPA) exists to represent and serve as THE voice of NPs to all stakeholders in New York. In addition, The NPA offers many tools for NPs to help navigate the health care system. For example, there are the member benefits of practice issue assistance, discounts to continuing education materials, and exclusive nurse practitioner job postings, to name just a few.

Another member benefit is access to our peer-reviewed journal, The JNPA, which contains both clinically relevant and important practice information for NPs. I invite you to read our latest Winter 2012 issue of The JNPA by clicking here.

There are many exciting initiatives planned by The NPA in 2013 and I hope that you consider joining us to help shape nurse practitioner practice in New York State. The work that we do is impossible without input and direction from our nurse practitioner members. Click here to join The NPA today.

Wishing you a Healthy and Prosperous 2013,

Stephen Ferrara, DNP, RN, FNP-BC
