The Spring Symposium will be held in Aurora on May 21, 2016 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The topic will be Screening and Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment (SBIRT).

WHY SBIRT
Risky substance use is a factor in all aspects of health and wellness. Often substance use is the missing piece in improving overall health and impacting—for the good and the bad—specific conditions. Screening everyone can identify substance use as a contributing factor to more than 70 medical conditions. SBIRT improves outcomes for chronic diseases, and can contribute to the wellness of your patients. With a renewed focus on prevention in healthcare, alcohol screening and brief intervention is a piece of the future of healthcare. Taking little time, SBIRT is an opportunity to improve the health of patients.
You will learn so much in this information packed program, walk away with immediate tools that you can apply in your practice. You will learn about the co-occurring illnesses that often travel with substance use disorders. You will learn how to use Motivational Interviewing as a methodology for asking questions. You will be amazed at how much relief patients have when they are asked about their drinking. This is a fun and informative program!

DETAILS

The 2-hour presentation on SBIRT will be conducted by Laurra Aagaard.  At 9:00 am there will be a buffet style breakfast/brunch, with the presentation from 10:00 am -12:00 pm.  It will be held in the 2nd floor Training Room at Peer Assistance Services, 2170 S. Parker Rd, Aurora, CO 80014
