Aggressive Risk Factor Management in the Prevention of Coronary Artery Disease: 2010
Presentation Overview:
A multimodal learning experience (lecture, discussion, computer projected images, interactive case studies, handout materials) designed to assist the Advanced Practice Clinician with the identification and treatment of risk factors that culminate in myocardial infarction and sudden death. Emphasis will be on early identification of risk for CAD which will lead to early and aggressive risk management in men and women and ultimately, result in delayed clinical presentation of coronary artery disease and sudden death.
At the completion of the session, the learner will be able to:
- Discuss the epidemiological impact of CAD in 2010
- List the major risk factors impacting aggressive CAD
Outline mechanisms designed to identify the earliest presentation and aggressive pharmacological treatment of:
- Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes
- Dyslipidemias
- Hypertension
- Discuss the inter-relationship between hypertension, obesity, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemias.
- Employ case studies to illustrate early, hidden risks in a patient with the potential for CAD
