Florida Chapter NAPNAP Newsletter

As we kick off into the Fall of our 2009-2010 fiscal year, I want to welcome all of our new members that have joined our Chapter.   I also want to thank all past members that have recently renewed! I would like you all to feel free to contact me at any time by phone or email if you have any questions about our organization.

We are planning many exciting events over the next twelve months.  We are planning our Oct dinner, member, education meeting which will take place on Oct 15, 2009 (Thursday) at Dubsdread Gulf Club in Orlando.   A physician from the UCF CARD (Center for Autistic and Related Disorders) program is going to speak. The email invite is soon to come.  Please RSVP to that invite if you plan to attend.

We are also joining together with the Gulf Coast Chapter to begin an annual one-day conference for all of our members and other NPs around the state.  This year it will take place here in Central Florida at the Winnie Palmer hospital on January 30, 2010.  SAVE THE DATE!!!      That is a Saturday and I hope you are all able to join us.  It will be a great opportunity to meet other NPs from Central Florida, St. Pete/ Tampa area, and hopefully from other places all over the state.  We are hoping to have six speakers present to us on that day.

Please take a moment to visit our new website to update your member profile and to start visiting it regularly to stay up to date on posted legislative information, news, upcoming events, and blogs that you will all be able to participate in.  Although we have a new updated website that is especially user friendly, the web address remains unchanged at www.flnapnap.org.

Due to the current economy over the past year, our funds have been very tight.  We always want to make sure we are able to have our dinner member meetings at least quarterly and to have educational conferences on a yearly basis.  We also plan to continue our student scholarship program each year.  In order to accomplish these goals without having to make cuts in other areas such as donations to other NP organizations that work hard year to year for our profession legislatively both at the local and national level, we would greatly appreciate any donations you may be willing to offer.  Every cent makes a difference!  If we were able to earn up to $1000 in donations to cover our scholarship fund money, we would be able to use $1000 towards other areas of interest for NP professionals.  If you are able to donate any funds (as little or as much as you can) please visit our website and follow the link to “Donations to our Scholarship fund”.

Speaking of that Scholarship fund, please spread the word that we are still accepting applications until the end of September.  The application can also be found of our website and can easily be filled out and submitted on line.  We will award two $500 scholarships this year!

Next year we will be looking for people to take on the following board member positions (see below).  If you have any interest in these positions please contact me.  Specific roles involved with each position will be sent out in a future newsletter. I just wanted to bring it to your attention now so you have plenty of time to think about it.  There will be a ballot sent out late Spring 2010 so that all new board members are chosen and begin to start on July 1, 2010.
