The Modernization Act:
1) Seeks to end mandantory physician collaborration. New NPs must formally collaborate for the first three years of practice . Formal collaboration for experienced NPs is not discouraged, it is just not mandantory.
2) Bill was passed in the New York State Assembly. Needs to be introduced again in the State Senate.
3)The Affordable Care Act will allow millions of new patients to join the insured rolls. There are not enough primary care physicians to care for all of the new patients. NPs are educated, experienced and able to fill in the gap. The Modernization Act will allow greater access to care as NPs will be able to practice at the full scope of their practice (The Institute of Medicine).
