Hello NP colleagues! It has been a busy few months from a policy standpoint, and I wanted to thank everyone for your efforts in supporting the APRN bill. Please see below for a quick update on this legislation. Also, we are going to offer sponsored dinners about every 3 months this year (attendance was dropping last year when we went to every 1-2 months). Here are a few notes on where we are headed for 2019 with the Northeast Kansas NP Alliance!
- Save the date for a disease awareness dinner on May 7: hyponatremia and falls and fractures. The presentation will be given by a medical science liaison and is not drug-specific. Location TBD soon!
- We are in the initial phase of planning a CEU event for this fall, with a focus on pharmacology. Feel free to email any board member with suggestions/input on topics (e.g. genetics and pharmacology, special populations, antibiotics).
- HB 2412 HB 2412 (link to bill Language) appeared last week, introduced into the chamber of the House from the Federal and State Affairs Committee. KAPN lobbyists are working to determine what path the bill will go and when. For now, we understand it has been referred to the Health Human Service Committee. If you are not aware, our original Bill HB2066 was "gutted" and replaced by the Medicaid Expansion language. Please consider a donation to KAPN to continue financial support of the lobbyists.
- Remember that as a member of our local organization, you receive an annual $10 discount on AANP NP membership! Please continue to support our group so that we can offer additional education, networking, and policy opportunities. Watch your inbox for a new local NP newsletter, which will keep you up to date on key NP and state healthcare information!
