It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Loretta Ford, a trailblazer and visionary who forever changed the landscape of healthcare as the co-founder of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) role.

Dr. Ford’s pioneering work began in the 1960s when she, alongside Dr. Henry Silver, developed the first NP program, blending advanced nursing practice with primary care. Her vision of empowering nurses to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care has since transformed healthcare systems globally, improving access to care for countless individuals and communities.

Her legacy is one of innovation, dedication, and unwavering belief in the potential of nurses to drive change. Dr. Ford's contributions not only redefined the nursing profession but also improved the health and well-being of millions.

As we reflect on her life, let us honor her by continuing to embody the principles of compassion, excellence, and advocacy that she championed. Her impact will live on through every patient served, every NP trained, and every life touched by her work.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and the entire nursing community during this time of loss. May her memory inspire us all to strive for a better, healthier future.

In gratitude and remembrance,
ANPA Board
