Attention Pennsylvania Nurse Practitioners
Personal essays wanted for an upcoming anthology
Looking for personal essays about being a nurse practitioner. Some ideas to get your creative juices flowing:
- What I thought it was going to be like, and what it actually is like
- Hardest part of transitioning to the advanced practice role
- Lessons learned the hard way
- The best part about being a nurse practitioner
- What you wish you would have known before you started
- Advice to people wanting to become nurse practitioners
- What makes nurse practitioners different from other providers
- How you have changed as a result of the work you have done as a nurse practitioner
- What you love about being a nurse practitioner
- Why you became a nurse practitioner
This isn’t an exhaustive list. Anything you want to say is important. Submissions should have a singular message or lesson. Target audience -other nurse practitioners and people considering nurse practitioner as a profession. Think Chicken Soup for the Soul series. There is no max word count. Minimum is 500 words. Please, no AI-generated submissions.
Submission period ends March 31, 2026
Acceptance emails will be sent by May 30, 2026. No rejection emails will be sent. If you don’t get an acceptance email your work wasn’t a match for the project. Acceptance will be based on the other submissions. For example, ten submissions with the same point will likely not all get accepted no matter how sharp the writing is.
Work accepted will be previously unpublished, either online or in print. Authors retain the right to republish the work, granting first publishing rights to the anthology.
Each selected author will receive 5 copies of the book.
A portion of the sales received from the anthology will be donated to the PAC fund
Pen names accepted for those wishing to remain anonymous. Submissions should be sent directly in the body of an email to heidiklingnewnam@gmail.com. Please include your ties to Pennsylvania in the subject line of email.
