AANP Promoting Inclusion of NPs in HPSA and MUP designations

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 mandated a committee to establish a comprehensive methodology and criteria for the designation of medically underserved population (MUPs) and health professional shortage areas (HPSAs).  The Negotiated Rulemaking Committee on Designation of MUPs and HPSAs meets monthly, to provide advice and recommendations regarding new rules for these designations.  Considerations involve inclusion of NPs in future formulas.  The next committee meeting is scheduled for February 16-18, in Rockville, MD.  AANP will continue to participate as an observer, providing comment in support of NPs.
