Come to the Fair!

If you are one of the NPA members who have already volunteered for the State Fair, THANK YOU for signing up early!!! If you haven't yet signed up now is a great time to reserve your day and time slot.

Nearly 1 million visitors come to the Great New York State Fair each year and our NPA member volunteers get to spend time together while helping educate the public about Nurse Practitioners and the excellent health care NPs provide! One of the first questions asked by visitors to the exhibit booth is " Are you a NP?". You can see the schedule and volunteer by clicking here.

Many free concerts have already been announced for the Chevy Court stage! Visit the State Fair web site to see what event you will say is a "Can't Miss". You can look at each day’s Special Fair Days to help you decide when you want to attend. All of this and more is waiting for you at the fair. Spend just 4 hours of your time at the NPA exhibit booth and then take the rest of the day for yourself. Won't you volunteer and come join us at the Great New York State Fair?

Only you can provide visitors to our booth with your own unique perspective on being a NP and what it means to you and your patients. ISTOP deadline approaching!

The New York State Department of Health's Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement maintains an online Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) registry. Effective August 27, 2013, most prescribers including NPs will be required to consult the PMP registry when writing prescriptions for Schedule II, III, and IV controlled substances. Practitioners will be able to designate designees to check the registry on their behalf. The New York State Internet System Tracking for Over Prescribing (ISTOP) will take effect later this summer (August 27, 2013). All prescribers in the State must have a Health Provider Network (HPN) account to access the system. Check out our website for more details on gaining access to the HPN. **Note that it can take up to two weeks to have your account fully functional.**

Nominations Needed: We also want NPA members to be aware that the nominations period for NP of the Year and Student NP of the Year close on August 1st! Let's be sure to nominate deserving NPs and Student NPs so a full field of nominees can be considered for this prestigious award!
