Dear Nurse Practitioner:

Our names are Kirstin Gleason and Elaina Clark. We are registered nurses currently completing requirements toward a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree at Gannon University’s Villa Maria School of Nursing. We are in the nurse practitioner option. As part of our educational requirements, we are conducting a study-and we need your help. This research study has been approved by the Institutional IRB, and the Pennsylvania and New York Nurse Practitioner Organizations and anonymous results will be shared with these three groups.

We are looking at nurse practitioners knowledge base and comfort in the care management of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Questioning (LGBTQ) populations. Your responses to the 37-item survey with 2 additional optional open ended questions will help us draw conclusions specific to the question under investigation. It should take no longer than 15 to 20 minutes to complete this survey.

Your participation is strictly voluntary. There are no risks associated with participation. There are also no benefits associated with participation, other than helping to add to nursing’s body of knowledge.

There are six demographic items that will be used to describe everyone who returned surveys. While direct quotes of responses to the two optional open ended items on the survey will be included in the report of this study, this will merely enhance and clarify findings. There will be no way to attribute any specific quote to any individual participant. To complete this survey a hyperlink is included with this email to surveymonkey this will ensure that there will be no way to identify any individual who participates in the study.

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. We ask that only current practicing nurse practitioners complete this survey. If you choose not to participate, there will be no penalties or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. Your consent to participate in the study is indicated by your completion of the questionnaire. The survey will be left open for a period of two weeks for completion. The findings will be reported in aggregate form.
