What’s New at NPAGR?

October 2013

Meet us in Saratoga! Many board and chapter members will be attending the State conference October 24-27th in Saratoga. It is always great to see members at various sessions and festivities. Thanks to Susan Smith, look for (and bid on) the gift basket donated from our chapter at the Silent Auction. Please check at the Registration desk area/announcement board for a posting directing you to the NPAGR reception which will be held in the Board’s suite. We look forward to celebrating all that is good about being an NP in the few days preceding NP week!

If you can’t make it to Saratoga or are interested in a great conference closer to home, register for the NPA Regional Conference which will be held Saturday, November 16th from 8-4 pm. The conference is planned and ready to go at St. John Fisher College in the Wegmans School of Nursing main building. Titled “Nurse Practitioners Addressing Complex Care Needs Across the Spectrum”, the conference offers 6.25 credits to attendees.

As Communications Chair, I receive numerous posts for job opportunities in the area. If you are looking, please check the Career Center tab on the ENP website and then click on Search local jobs. Two new postings are noted there.

Do your part to celebrate national NP week! It is a great time to get the word out about NPs, & our connection to the Future of Nursing Initiative. Now is the time to speak up and lead change to practice to the full extent of our education. I was just interviewed by the D&C regarding NPs and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). I used the social media resources from the AANP website. Access them at http://www.aanp.org/images/documents/press-room/npweekbinder.pdf

Prepare something for your institution newsletter, or ask to speak about the patient centered, evidence-based, quality driven work we are known for at a gathering of nurses and consumers at your workplace. Many consumers have questions about the ACA, and what it means for them. Nurses and NPs are leading the way in educating people how to access care. They need to know that NPs are frontline providers for those new to the health care system. Help us spread the word!
