Greetings,
It's Halloween! As all the little ghosts and goblins prepare to trick or treat, we want to thank you for the many ways you treat our communities. With flu season officially on, there's no doubt your staff is busy stocking and administering flu shots. Please keep in mind that, while not as sweet as the treats you'll be passing out tonight, each flu vaccine you give could save a child's life.
We are grateful for the work you do to keep Colorado kids healthy, and we're especially proud to see several of our partners recognized this month for their successes as educators and role models in the field of immunization.
We hope to see you at the November 7 coalition meeting!
Yours ghouly,
Stephanie Wasserman, Executive Director Meredith Kersten, Communications Manager Elizabeth Lutz, Program and Membership Manager

Denver Health Reports 91% Coverage Rate for Hep B Birth Dose
Congratulations to Denver Health on its inclusion in the Immunization Action Coalition's Hepatitis B Birth Dose Honor Roll!
The Immunization Action Coalition's Hepatitis B Birth Dose Honor Roll recognizes U.S. birthing institutions that have attained a birth dose coverage rate of 90% or greater and have met specific additional criteria. These criteria help define the important elements of a birth dose policy that are needed to ensure newborns do not fall through the cracks when medical errors occur.
To be included in the Immunization Action Coalition's Hepatitis B Birth Dose Honor Roll, a birthing institution must have:
- Achieved, over a 12-month period, a coverage rate of 90% or greater for administering hepatitis B vaccine before hospital discharge to all newborns (regardless of weight), including those whose parents refuse vaccination.
- Implemented written policies, procedures, and protocols to protect all newborns from hepatitis B virus infection prior to hospital discharge. The following criteria are generally required, but exceptions may be made.

Senate Bill 222 Update
The SB222 Taskforce met in October to learn more from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment about vaccine access data in Colorado and to start to identify Taskforce subcommittees. Participants also held small group discussions to address barriers and needs for improving the immunization system. Some suggested ideas for Taskforce subcommittees included, but were not limited to: insurance contracting; financial issues (purchasing); provider capacity; data; communications and successes from other states. The November meeting will continue the discussion on Taskforce structure and goals.
