Aerobic Exercise May Help Reduce Risk for Dementia

Dementia and mild cognitive impairment are prevalent among our aging population. Alzheimer's disease accounts for most causes of dementia. Other causes include dementia with Lewy bodies, vascular disease, frontotemporal degeneration syndromes, and various less common disorders. Unfortunately, no medication has been proven to reduce the risk for dementia or age-related cognitive impairment. Increasing amounts of studies are strongly suggesting that exercise, specifically aerobic exercise, may attenuate cognitive impairment and reduce dementia risk.
