Message from Ann Petersen-Smith - Requesting you to vote for her for National NAPNAP Chapter's Chair Position
Ann Petersen-Smith seeks your vote:
Dear Rocky Mountain Chapter Colleagues,
I am asking for your vote for the position of NAPNAP Chapters Chair, 2014-2016. I am committed to doing the best job I can for you, our chapter, and the organization.
Currently, I teach pediatrics at the University of Colorado College of Nursing and am honored to serve as the PNP Specialty Option Coordinator. I maintain my clinical expertise by working in the ED at the Children's Hospital Colorado. I spend a lot of time engaging with my Advanced Practice Providers at the hospital. Together we work on NP, NP, and PNP student issues in the hospital and community. I serve my community by accepting invitations to speak on behalf of children and families and serving as a preceptor for NP students in the area.
I have been a NAPNAP member since I was a PNP student a quarter of a century ago. I have held every office (except Treasurer) at least once (some twice) at the local level. I continue to be an active member of my chapter, currently serving as Membership Chair. I have worked hard to engage the PNP students and colleagues in NAPNAP and many have joined.
I served on the NAPNAP Executive Board as Clinical Practice Chair for one term (2011-2013). During that time the organization faced many trials and tribulations, which occupied the whole executive board for many, many months. Despite the demands of the Executive Board, I was able to establish a mechanism for Special Interest Groups (SIG) to share specialty information and activities. I encouraged SIGS to work together on common ideas and concerns, added three new SIGS, and developed training for the SIG officers. I was able to secure and improve the SIG Showcase at the National Convention and participated in SIG meetings either at the conference or by conference call. We were able to update several NAPNAP Position Statements and retire a few that were outdated or revised to reflect current NP Practice.
Following my term, I was asked to continue my role on the Strategic Planning Committee for NAPNAP. This work took several months of training and hard work. In addition, I accepted the role of Chairperson of the Chapter/ SIG Workgroup. This work began during my term on the board and continued until this month. The Workgroup consisted of Chapter, SIG, and Board members.
I would like to help bring the work of these groups to fruition. I feel that my previous work on the Executive Board and these and other committees, I have the gained the knowledge and skills to become the Chapters Chair. I am ready for the challenge.
I am asking for your vote this spring! I promise to do the job to the best of my ability. I am ready to serve. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Ann Petersen-Smith
