BCHD Grand Rounds: PrEP and Vaginal Microbicides (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)

Tamarac, FL
The Florida Nurses Association - South Region

On behalf of the Broward County Health Department Division of Communicable Disease, I am pleased to invite you to Grand Rounds, a quarterly educational event to be held Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 8:30AM to 12:00PM in our Administration Building-Auditorium.  The topic this quarter is “PrEP and Vaginal Microbicides…Do we know enough to stop transmission?”  PrEP is short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. PrEP consists of a daily dose of an antiretroviral combination which has been shown in recent research to reduce the risk of HIV infection among HIV negative men who have sex with men as part of comprehensive HIV prevention services.

This topic is most relevant as we approach “World AIDS Day”, December 1st.  World AIDS Day is an opportunity to examine the realities of this 30 year epidemic.  Every nine and a half minutes, someone is diagnosed with HIV and must face a new and uncertain future.

Continuing Education credits will be provided for licensed professionals.  To register, please contact Laura Rabin at 954-467-4700, Ext. 5512.
