Discussion re: 3600 Hrs for Prescriptive Authority

Denver, CO
The Colorado Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurses

At this evening's Symposium there will be a brief discussion re: the need for 3600 hrs for prescriptive authority and the supervision requirements involved.  CNA and the CNE (Center for Nursing Excellence) have been meeting with stakeholder groups to address concerns regarding this law, including new grads moving out of state for jobs because unable find positions in CO to achieve the requirements.  The CNA GAPP committee has taken the position that the number of hours needs to be decreased but has not decided what number is appropriate, and that prescribing APNs need to be authorized to provide the supervision without the involvement of a physician.  The issues above are being presented to NPATCH  (Nurse-Physician Advisory Task Force for Colorado Healthcare).  If you have an opinion regarding the number of supervised hours needed for safe prescribing please email me at lrmehringer@comcast.net and/or share your input at the Symposium this evening.  Thank you.
