Modernization Act Update

Last night the NYS Senate recessed at approximately 10 PM with our NP Modernization Act remaining in the Rules Committee.  While the NPA, its lobby team and members worked hard to secure passage in the Senate, the bill met with strong opposition from the Medical Society and others which unfortunately, we were unable to overcome during the last hours before the Senate recessed last night.

It is important to underscore all the progress that has been made on this bill to date.  With passage of the bill in the Assembly, our government relations firm feels extremely positive about the position we are in to continue discussions with Senate members and leaders should they return to Albany later this Fall to take up important unfinished business.   As currently expected, this may not be until after elections in November.

In the interim, we would like to thank all those who participated in our advocacy efforts this year as we evaluate and continue to plan our next steps forward!   Additional information and details describing other important legislation of interest to our Association will be forthcoming in the near future and in the next month’s issue of the JNPA as it becomes available.

The NPA wishes to take this opportunity to thank our bill sponsors, Senator Catharine Young, and Assembly member Richard N. Gottfried, for their continuing efforts and support of this important legislation.
