Letter from the President

November 2012

Hard to believe it is an election year already! While I am sure people are thinking about who they will vote for in the upcoming elections, I would like to remind everyone that the Syracuse NPA Chapter is looking for nominees for the following positions: President- Elect, Treasurer and Secretary. Also looking for Student Representative and Nominating committee. We need to have volunteers if we want the Syracuse Chapter to continue. Dorothy Champney has volunteer to run again as treasurer. If interested please send an e-mail to the NPA.syracuse@gmail.com expressing your interest. Please send a brief bio along with your interest. We need to mail out the ballots as soon as possible. To date we have no nominees except Dorothy volunteering to run again for Treasurer. Remember you do not have to do it alone, grab a friend and volunteer to do it together. The Syracuse Chapter is at its highest membership in years. We would like for this to continue!

November 11-17th 2012 is Nurse Practitioner Week. Did you know……………………………

*The number of NPs licensed in New York State grew by 1163 or nearly 7% during calendar year 2011 (the most recently available statistic).

*There are currently nearly 17,000 NPs licensed in New York State.

*NPs were granted title and scope of practice in 1988 and are now an essential part of patient        care throughout New York State.

Please look for an article in the November edition of “CNY in Good Heath”, about Nurse Practitioners in CNY! Thank you Amy Scullion for working on this with such a short notice from the editor!

Thank you Jane Monnell for all your hard work for the Legislative meeting last month at the Genesee Grande. We would like to thank all the Senators and Assemblymen that attended.

Reminder November dinner meeting November 13th 2012, look for the up coming e-mail for further information.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the November 13th meeting.

Sincerely,

Cheryl A Luttinger and Ann Roman
