Kansas Call to Action

Kansas City, MO
The Greater Kansas City Chapter of NAPNAP

Hi Kansas NP Colleagues,

It is time to step up and take action! Kansas APRNs are introducing legislation next week to eliminate the written collaborative agreement. It is the same bill as last year with one clarification added for CRNAs. At this time, NPs need to talk with our legislators and ask that the Health committee chairs hold a hearing.

To email your legislator, please visit this link. If your legislator happens to be one of the Health Committee Chairs (Rep. Daniel Hawkins or Sen. Mary Pilcher-Cook), once you enter your address information you will see a special message requesting that they hold a hearing on our bill, and for constituents of other legislators, you will see a request that they support the bill and call on their Committee Chair colleagues to hold a hearing.

While this advocacy alert will allow you to contact the legislators who represent you, if you have relationships with any others through church, organizations, neighborhood associations, family, etc., please reach out to them as well and explain the important role of NPs and why patients need this legislation to pass.

Beyond contacting your legislator via email, if you would like to come to Topeka to assist with legislator meetings, please email the Kansas NP lobbyist, Mary Ellen Conlee at maryellen@conleeconsulting.com.

You are each a member of AANP because you are a leader and you care about our profession. Now is the time to make an impact on our legislators. With your help, we can move this legislation. Please get at least two other Kansas NPs to also reach out to their legislators by sharing the advocacy alert.

Additional talking points and fact sheets for the bill are available at ksnurses.com and kansasnps.com. You can also request to join the Kansas APRN Task Force closed group here. As AANP continues to work with the Kansas nursing community on this effort, we will also provide you additional updates via email.

Sincerely,

Michelle Knowles, APRN, FNP-BC
AANP State Representative, Kansas
