Cenla NPs visit the capitol

Additional Information

Hello Cenla NPs!

Mandie and Kelli posted about Cenla NPs going to the capitol on April 3. This is all the information that you need and if you do plan on joining, I hope that you will click on the link to register so that we know how many will be there. It was my intention to lead the group, but life happens, and my husband will be having surgery that day. So, Esther DeJong and possible Melissa Nunn, LANP president will be helping you navigate the capitol that day. Esther is a Certified Nurse Midwife that LANP works closely with. Please do not sign up if you have no intention of coming or let us know immediately if your plans change.

Although we do not have a bill this session, there are alot of things happening around healthcare and always alot of chatter about nursing. We need to be present!! If you cannot join on April 3, please plan on being there May 1 for nurses day at the capitol. I will share more on that agenda soon.

Hotels near the capitol are:

1.  Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center, Lafayette Street

2.  Hampton Inn & Suites, Corner of Main and Lafayette Streets

3. Hotel Indigo, corner of Lafayette and Convention Street

This is the agenda for the day:

  1. Arrive between 8:00-8:15 to assure parking
  2. Parking is between N 3rd Street and North River Road in between Capitol Annex and the Claiborne Building OR parking area along North River Road.
  3. You will need to go through Security including metal detectors on the ground floor "under the steps" of the capitol
  4. Once you have cleared security we will meet by the cafeteria
  5. Wear professional dress, comfortable shoes and your white lab coat. If you have a NP pin, please wear that as well.
  6. We will attend/observe either the Senate or the House Health and Welfare Committee meeting which begins at 9 am.
  7. Please use this link https://www.legis.la.gov/legis/FindMyLegislators.aspx to identify your State Representatives and Senator.
  8. You may need to email them this weekend or for sure by Monday of your scheduled visit to the capitol. Email their assistant and let them know the date that you will be at the Capitol and request a meeting with them. If a meeting cannot be arranged, then we will try to make sure that you connect with them briefly around the capitol.
  9. Your day can end after the health and welfare meeting ends, after your meeting with your legislators, or you can stay and listen to debates on bills on the House or Senate floor. That session usually begins at 1 pm. So, you can make a short or long day, it is up to you. But I promise, your presence will be noted!

Thank you!
