Hello everyone. The Planning Committee is excited to present the 18th Annual Gerontological Conference this November. Our speakers and topics have been selected. We are finalizing details with our speaker times, sponsorships and meals. Meals will be provided will be provided if industry support is received.

Infectious Disease, American Board of Internal Medicine
Amanda Kupstas, MD, is board-certified in surgery. She completed her fellowship in breast surgery at the Mayo Clinic and has clinical interests in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant breast disease, evaluation of women at increased risk of breast cancer, and nipple sparing mastectomy. Dr. Kupstas sees patients in Brighton and Livonia.

Senior Advisor IHI, Chair Moving Forward National Coalition
Alice Bonner has been a nurse practitioner for over 30 years. She is currently Senior Advisor for Aging at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and Chair of the Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition. From 2015-2019, Bonner served as Secretary of the Executive Office of Elder Affairs for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. From 2011 to 2013, Dr. Bonner served as Director of the Division of Nursing Homes in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in Baltimore, MD.

Jenifer Martin is an adjunct clinical instructor in the Department of Health Management and Policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She teaches courses and frequently provides guest lectures and workshops in effective advocacy for students, faculty, staff, and community partners. Ms. Martin served as director of government relations at the UM School of Public Health from 2002-2018. In 2013-2014, she helped launch government relations for the UM Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation, where her efforts led to a multidisciplinary partnership with the State of Michigan to evaluate the implementation of health reform, including the State’s Medicaid expansion. She has authored and overseen successful federal and foundation grant projects and managed the campus-wide Bioterrorism Preparedness Initiative post-911. Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Ms. Martin held various legislative and policy roles in Washington, D.C. She received a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Dr. Lisa Chism has achieved the very prestigious Doctorate of Nursing Practice. As the clinical director of the Oakland Macomb Breast Center at Oakland Macomb Obstetrics & Gynecology, P.C., in Rochester Hills, Troy and Lenox, Michigan. Lisa has over 25 years of experience as a nurse practitioner, specializing primarily in breast health. She is passionate about breast cancer detection and survivorship, with a special interest in menopause and sexual health. Most recently, she served as clinical director of the Women’s Wellness Clinic at Karmanos Cancer Institute, where she cared for women’s comprehensive breast concerns, including elevated risk for breast cancer and breast cancer survivorship. Lisa is also a certified menopause practitioner through the North American Menopause Society and a certified sexuality counselor through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists. During her time at Karmanos Cancer Institute, she established a dedicated menopause and sexual health clinic caring for the menopausal and sexual health needs of women with a history of breast cancer or at elevated risk for breast cancer. A fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Lisa was selected as Menopause Practitioner of the Year in 2011. In addition, she received the Karmanos Cancer Institute Heroes of Breast Cancer Compassionate Caregiver Award. In 2013, she received a Nightingale Award in the Distinguished Alumni category from Oakland University. Lisa currently serves on the Board of Directors at the North American Menopause Society. Recently, she was appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to serve on a federal advisory committee with the CDC regarding breast cancer in young women. She also guest lectures around the country on breast, menopause, and sexual health and is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

A dedicated healthcare professional, I have been at the forefront of long-term care nursing for the last 13 years. She earned a Masters in Nursing in 1999, marking the beginning of a passionate and impactful career in the field. She has served as State Clinical Director, Regional Clinical Leader for all of Ohio and Southern Ohio, and most currently as the Corporate Clinical Specialist for Eventus WholeHealth since October 2023. Her most recent duties focus on corporate and facility level issues including navigating the Schizophrenia Federal Surveys, Return to Hospital reviews and participating in QAPI meetings focusing on Antipsychotics, Psychotropics, Antibiotic Stewardship and other QAPI metrics, as well as participate in educating staff on the latest changes to CMS that impact long term care. She also help facilities problem solve and educate staff as needed when survey issues arise or if additional education is needed in any area of need.
