Seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to work with our General Surgery patients.

Our APPs can see both new and established patient visits while working closely with physicians. Also, our physicians will be paired with a nurse to work alongside them in the office. This close collaboration assists in creating patient and physician ease and efficiency as well as providing continuity of care and attention to detail. Here at Bedford Memorial Hospital, we have a very low nursing turnover rate and boast a culture of warmth and a family friendly community.

Prior surgical experience is desired..

Responsibilities

• Communicate with core group of APPs and surgeons as well as other specialties
• Utilize Cerner EMR
• Variable day shifts including rotating weekend and holiday coverage
• Evaluate patients in clinic for routine post-op care and acute problems
• Round and perform consultations, progress evaluations, and discharges in the hospital
• Order diagnostic evaluations and medical therapies
• Coordinate care with patients, their families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Perform minor procedures independently including wound care, ostomy care, I&Ds, suture and staple removal, punch biopsy, aspirations, feeding tube care
• Opportunities for first assist in the OR

Centra Medical Group (CMG) is a network of local family practices, primary care providers and medical and surgical specialists. With almost 600 employed providers, specialists and surgeons covering the greater Lynchburg area and spanning from Danville to Farmville, Moneta and Bedford, CMG provides the community with primary care providers, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, gerontologists, neurosurgeons, physiatrists, psychiatrists, therapists and urologists. CMG-Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency is a training ground for future Family Physicians. Many of the physicians at the side hold academic appointments with the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine or Liberty University.

Centra Medical Group is launching the health systems first clinical advancement program for CMG Advanced Practice Providers – LEAPP (Leadership, Excellence, Advocacy, Professional Growth, and Professionalism). This program is a two-tier self-directed pathway that allows our providers to choose how they how they wish to advance along the pathway. The goal of LEAPP is to provide APP’s within the medical group with a structured pathway for advancement, while allowing them to focus on their interest with an associated financial incentive for completing the program. This is an exciting step for our medical group and our Advanced Practice Providers and we look forward to sharing more with you.
