Position Description

Position:  Advanced Practice Nurse – SUD / Mental Health

 Job Summary: 

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works as part of the Medical/Nursing Services team and is tasked with providing medical and psychiatric services to individuals with complex medical conditions seeking admission to or currently participating in residential SUD treatment.

Additionally, the NP will provide MAT/MAR services to clients in all levels of care and provide support for the Consulting Psychiatrist and Mental Health Counselor in our integrated MH program.

 

Qualifications: 

Current Illinois Licensed Nurse Practitioner with Full Practice Authority. Mental Health Certification preferred but not required. Required knowledge, skills, and experience providing person-centered, strength-based medical assessments, health education, and treatment for clients experiencing substance use disorders. Required knowledge, skills, and experience providing diagnosis and treatment of co-occurring disorders, including medication evaluation and management of psychotropic and other MH medications. Required knowledge, skills, and experience prescribing MAT/MAR medications including, but not limited to Suboxone and Naltrexone

 

Must have excellent communication skills and be highly organized. Must submit to DHS Schedule L background checks and meet the eligibility requirements for employment. Prior experience in a residential setting desired, but not required. Bilingual preferred.

 RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 Medical and Psychiatric Services

    1. Conduct client physical examinations as requested to approve admission medications and address current psychiatric or medical conditions that could delay admission to treatment.
    2. Provide weekly clinic hours for current clients to address mild to moderate medical concerns or injuries.
    3. c) Provide weekly MAT/MAR clinic hours for clients seeking to begin or continue the

     use of medication to assist them with their treatment and recovery.

  1. Provide ongoing psychiatric services in the absence of the consulting psychiatrist including but not limited to follow up services for medication management, evaluation of and directed intervention and treatment of emergency psychiatric situations, and providing consultation for the agency MH Counselor.
  2. Document services provided in the client health record per procedure.
  3. Maintain client health records per procedure

 Quality Improvement

    1. Assure compliance with policies and procedures related to medical services as well as safety and infection control.
    2. Participate in accreditation surveys and licensure compliance surveys as needed.

 Other

    1. Participate in client treatment planning, reviews, and other care coordination meetings as necessary.
    2. Provide staff training, if requested.
    3. Other duties as assigned
