Bay Cove pursues this mission by providing individualized and compassionate services to people facing the challenges associated with developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness at more than 175 program sites throughout Greater Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts.
Reports To: Medical Director (Medical) & Vice President of Addiction & Homeless Services (Admin)
Job Summary: The Advanced Practice Nurse will provide comprehensive, patient-centered, trauma-informed medical assessment and support to patients with substance use disorders seeking acute withdrawal treatment and clinical stabilization services, meeting with patients at the time of admission to assess the severity of withdrawal, initiate appropriate treatment protocols, review past medical history and home medications, and to address any acute medical and psychiatric concerns. The Advanced Practice Nurse contributes to Bay Cove’s mission by ensuring high quality, integrated SUD, psychiatric, and medical care to individuals while they embark on their recovery journey.
This is an exempt position.

This is an exempt position.
Essential Functions of Position:
- Performs comprehensive medical assessments for patients, including obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, ordering appropriate diagnostics and therapeutics, interpreting patient data, triaging to higher level of care if appropriate.
- Monitors each patient’s response to medications and other therapeutics over their stay and revises the care plan as appropriate.
- Provides respectful, patient-centered, trauma-informed medical care that is at the same time thorough and efficient.
- Documents patient encounters meticulously and efficiently.
- Work with the Medical Director to provide clinical supervision and education the entire team.
- Participates in a shared after-hours on call coverage pool.
- Collaborates and communicates effectively with other team members, including clinical leadership, case managers, clinicians, counselors, and recovery specialists.
- Assists with the development and evaluation of practice guidelines and protocols.
- Participates in quality and process improvement activities to improve patient care and/or related systems.
- Other job related duties as assigned.
- Board recognized as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), such as a Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Psychiatric Nurse Mental Health Clinical Specialist (PNMHCS), or Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (PCNS).
- Five (5) years of experience in Adult Internal Medicine.
- Two (2) years of experience working with a vulnerable population.
- Prior experience in addiction treatment.
- BLS Certification within 90 days of hire.
- Completion of the required 8-hour course on substance use disorder.
- Valid Prescriptive Authority from the MA DPH-DCP and Federal DEA.
- Prior experience in harm reduction and trauma responsive patient care preferred.
- Demonstrated professional writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Intermediate proficiency in word processing and other computer functions using Windows, Word, and Google Email and Apps.
