Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Job Details

  • Employment Type: Locum tenens (contract healthcare job)
  • Location: On-site in Des Moines, IA (50309) – Iowa nursing jobs
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8-hour day shifts (no nights, weekends, or on-call)
  • Shifts per Week: 5
  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Contract Duration: 16 weeks, with potential for extension or permanent placement
  • Start Date: September 8, 2025
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $4110 - $4870 per week

Nurse Practitioner Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner (NP)
  • Current, unrestricted NP license to practice in Iowa
  • DEA license or eligibility to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Current CPR or BLS certification
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Background in dialysis, nephrology, or primary care preferred
  • Experience managing heart failure, hypertension, and diabetes
  • Familiarity with palliative care planning is a plus
  • Spanish-speaking preferred but not required

Healthcare Responsibilities

  • Provide primary care services in nephrologist offices and dialysis centers
  • Manage complex CKD and ESKD patients to reduce hospitalizations and improve clinical outcomes
  • Help launch new outpatient CKD clinics near dialysis units
  • Work independently and collaboratively with physicians and healthcare teams
  • Participate in care redesign and innovative healthcare practice development
  • Engage in palliative care planning and health risk assessments
  • Build rapport with patients and providers, fostering a positive healthcare culture
  • Travel locally between practice and dialysis clinic environments as needed
