Position Description

Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner – Correctional Mental Health

Full-Time | On-site | Correctional Facility

Make a Meaningful Impact in Correctional Mental Health

Step into a critical role where your expertise in psychiatric nursing meets an urgent need. This Nurse Practitioner position is based within a New Jersey correctional facility, where you’ll care for an underserved and often overlooked population. In this secure and structured setting, you'll deliver high-quality mental health care that can change the course of lives—both inside and beyond the walls.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations and assessments for individuals with a wide range of mental health conditions
  • Develop personalized treatment plans, incorporating risk management and relapse prevention strategies
  • Provide individual and/or group therapy sessions
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with state laws and facility guidelines
  • Collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and nursing staff
  • Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, treatment progress, and discharge summaries
  • Promote a patient-centered, respectful, and evidence-based approach to mental healthcare

What You Bring:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (required)
  • Current NP license in New Jersey
  • Certification in Psychiatry or Mental Health
  • Prescriptive authority with current DEA and CDS
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • BLS certification (required)
  • New graduates with the right background and passion for behavioral health are welcome to apply

Why This Role Stands Out:

  • No two days are the same—encounter and treat a wide range of psychiatric and medical conditions, often in patients who haven’t had consistent access to care
  • Be part of a collaborative care model that values respect, equity, and safety
  • Play a vital role in improving mental health outcomes for a population that truly needs your care
