Position Summary/ Department Summary
The Esophageal and Airway Treatment Center at Boston Children’s specializes in caring for infants, children and adolescents with routine to complex esophageal and airway conditions. Our team of pediatric experts from surgery, gastroenterology, pulmonary, ORL, nutrition, and Speech-Language pathologists work together to provide comprehensive and personalized treatment plans for patients and families. The Nurse Practitioner will have clinical, administrative and programmatic responsibilities. The management of these patients involves multidisciplinary care.

Our team of pediatric experts from surgery, gastroenterology, pulmonary, ORL, nutrition, and Speech-Language pathologists work together to provide comprehensive and personalized treatment plans for patients and families. The Nurse Practitioner will have clinical, administrative and programmatic responsibilities. The management of these patients involves multidisciplinary care.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing coordination and direct care to patients diagnosed with Esophageal Atresia, Tracheomalacia, and related conditions who are admitted to the program. Such patients often have multi-system comorbidities in the VACTERL spectrum including congenital cardiac defects, colorectal/urogenital issues, neurosurgical issues.
- Functioning as the point person for hospitalized patients who have been accepted into the program.
- Primarily assisting in the care of inpatients - including making assessments, obtaining medical histories, performing physical exams and ordering necessary diagnostic and therapeutic interventions on patients under the direction of supervising physician(s), coordinating hospital-to-hospital transfers, and collaborating with other departments.
- Participating in daily rounds to reinforce plan of care.
- Some outpatient follow up care which may include direct care, telephone triage, and coordination of care in patient's medical home and provision of ongoing support to patients, their families and referring providers.
- Excellent communication skills, flexibility, interest and experience working in a team setting/complex academic environment will be essential.
- Working 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, four 10 hour day shifts.
Education
- A Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN)
- RN/NP acute care (hospital) experience preferred.
- NICU or ICU experience a plus.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills and computer skills.
- MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse- PNP or FNP
