Required Qualifications (as Evidenced By An Attached Resume)
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Current NYS Registered Nurse License. Current Nurse Practitioner Board Certification in either Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners (AGPCNP), or Women’s Health Nurse Practitioners (WHNPs). Three (3) years of full time clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner, which may include clinical rotations or practicum completed during a NP program.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional years (4+) of full time clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner, which may include clinical rotations or practicum completed during a NP program. Experience in an outpatient setting. Experience with spoken or written languages other than English (i.e. Spanish, Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin or Hindi). Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Brief Description Of Duties
Student Health Services offers comprehensive primary and preventive medical care to all students, including medication management, sexually transmitted infections (STI) testing, referral and specialty care, and pharmacy services. The nurse practitioner (NP) will provide high-quality primary healthcare services to university students. This role emphasizes promoting and maintaining student health and wellness through preventive care, education, and treatment of acute and chronic conditions. The NP will work collaboratively with other healthcare providers, support staff, and the university community to ensure patient-centered care.
In addition to direct patient care, the NP will educate patients with a significant emphasis on health maintenance and preventive measures. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating health center educational materials, maintaining active involvement in professional organizations, engaging in outreach activities, and contributing to the field through presentations at national and regional conferences and/or research scholarship. The provider will also perform administrative functions, update skills as needed, recertify as appropriate, and apply evidence-based research to practice.
The provider must have excellent dynamic communication and interpersonal skills, as well as analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. A strong commitment to a cultural humility is essential, along with the ability to build working relationships with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. The NP will offer services, participate in vaccine administration PODS, and support university infection prevention policies. They will assist in the supervision and training of healthcare staff and employed students as well as students in training. This position is assigned to west campus but may be asked to support the Health Science Center and Southampton and as needed.
The incumbent plays a crucial role as a team member within Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services. In this capacity, they collaborate with other team members to collectively contribute to the overall functioning and effectiveness of the services provided. This involves actively participating in team meetings, sharing insights, and engaging in collaborative decision-making processes. The incumbent's role extends to fostering a cooperative and supportive atmosphere, ensuring seamless teamwork, and collectively working towards the common goals and objectives of Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services.
Clinical Responsibilities
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
Salary: $130,000 + $4,000 Location Pay = $134,000 Total Compensation
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.

Clinical Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions and provide primary care services, including routine physical exams, management of chronic diseases, and health screenings.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as lab work and imaging studies.
- Provide urgent care services for acute illnesses and injuries, including minor procedures.
- Prescribe medications and other treatments in accordance with state laws and institutional policies.
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments, which may include gynecological exams, STI testing, Provide pelvic exams, contraceptive counseling, and management of menstrual disorders, prenatal education and referrals to external providers as appropriate.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans. Use clinical knowledge to identify acute and/or chronic health problems through comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments, including medical histories, physical examinations, screenings, diagnostic tests, diagnoses, and prescribing appropriate medications and treatments.
- Administer vaccinations and provide direct treatment and management of acute and chronic disease conditions.
- Collaborate with physicians, patients, nurses, ancillary care providers, and others to develop and implement patient-centered care plans. Screen and implement PrEp Therapy.
- Educate patients on disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Offer support and resources for mental health issues, general health topics, chronic disease management, and preventive care.
- Work closely with other healthcare providers and staff within Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services to ensure comprehensive and continuous care.
- Collaborate with university departments and student organizations to promote health and wellness initiatives.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and case management.
- Coordinate referrals and arrange for medical follow-up as appropriate.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Maintain a high standard of professional ethics consistent with the guidelines of the state licensing board regulating nursing care.
- Develop and participate in campus-wide health promotion activities and educational programs focused on women's health and general health.
- Conduct workshops, seminars, and health screenings to raise awareness about women's health issues and general health.
- Advocate for health services and resources within the university community.
- Participate in opportunities that promote their learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars).
- Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas within and outside the Office of Student Life (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, and programs).
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental missions.
- Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
