Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physicians Assistant (PA) job description
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our orthopedic team. The NP or PA will work collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with musculoskeletal conditions. This role involves both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, including assisting in surgeries, conducting physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing treatment plans. Key Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive orthopedic assessments and physical exams. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Assist in pre-operative and post-operative care of orthopedic patients. First-assist in orthopedic surgeries (if credentialed). Order and interpret imaging studies (X-rays, MRIs, CT scans) and laboratory tests. Develop and manage treatment plans, including prescribing medications, physical therapy, injections, or referrals. Educate patients and families about orthopedic conditions, treatment plans, post-op care, and injury prevention. Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers. Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR). Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities. Qualifications: Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program. Current Nurse Practitioner license and board certification (FNP, AGNP, or ACNP) in state of practice. Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program State licensure and certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification or experience in orthopedic care preferred (e.g., ONP-C or RNFA a plus). Minimum of 1–2 years of NP experience, preferably in orthopedics or a surgical specialty. BLS/ACLS certification required. Skills and Competencies: Strong clinical knowledge in orthopedic and musculoskeletal health. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and time management skills. Familiarity with EMR systems. Work Environment: May include outpatient clinic, inpatient units, operating room.
Estimated Range: ~$124K–$177K/year (depending on experience)
