Nurse Practitioner – Clinical Research Setting
Overview
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join a leading clinical research program that focuses on brain imaging and neuroscience. This role offers the opportunity to work in a unique environment combining direct patient care with cutting-edge research that explores brain function, addiction, and related health conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a certified Nurse Practitioner for a defined patient population, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality care.
- Independently assess acute and non-acute clinical conditions, perform physical exams, and document detailed patient histories and progress notes.
- Perform and monitor invasive procedures such as arterial line removal, blood sampling, and IV administration.
- Provide health education and counseling to patients and families, adapting communication to meet diverse backgrounds and learning needs.
- Manage comprehensive patient care, including writing orders, interpreting diagnostic results, prescribing medications, and initiating emergency interventions when necessary.
- Present patient cases and contribute to case conferences to improve both patient care and research outcomes.
- Assist in the design and implementation of clinical protocols, including recruitment, screening, informed consent, monitoring treatment responses, and contributing to data analysis and publication.
- Act as a leader and mentor within the clinical team, supporting peer review, quality improvement projects, and professional development of colleagues and students.
- Collect, organize, and analyze clinical data; prepare charts, graphs, and statistical summaries; ensure compliance with quality assurance and data integrity standards.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing and current Nurse Practitioner certification (Maryland license or eligibility).
- At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, plus 5 years as an RN in an acute care setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Background in medical-surgical or acute care nursing.
- Proficiency in IV insertion, blood draws, and invasive procedures.
- Strong data management and computer skills.
- Flexibility with work hours and ability to adapt to the needs of research patients.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
