Responsibilities
The role of a Lead Nurse Practitioner in an Inpatient II setting involves overseeing the activities of the clinical team to ensure high-quality, compassionate, and efficient patient care. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and supervising the clinical team to ensure effective delivery of patient care
- Conducting utilization management reviews during high-volume situations to ensure medically necessary care.
- Providing leadership and training to the Inpatient UM team, both local and remote.
- Conducting performance evaluations and providing feedback to staff.
- Assisting in developing and updating departmental policies, procedures, workflows, and SOPs.
- Escalating issues identified during rounds to the Inpatient UM Supervisor for resolution.
- Coordinating team meetings and facilitating team-building exercises.
- Collaborating with other departments to resolve authorization issues and support UM staff with member grievances.
- Leading daily huddles with hospitalists and Medical Directors for outlier cases.
- Reviewing denial verbiage to ensure accuracy before submission for processing.
- Assisting nurses in identifying eligible cases for referral to various internal and external programs. in the inpatient setting.
