  • The Physician Assistant in collaboration and consultation with physicians, staff RNs and other health care professionals, provides holistic, compassionate care to Members and families. The Physician Assistant practices within the context of collaborative management with a physician(s) in diagnosing, managing, and preventing acute and chronic illness and disease, and promoting wellness. Physician Assistants have an advanced practice that includes independent functions based on the applicable Scope of Practice, Physician Assistant standards of care and a role in medical management within a collaborative agreement with a physician(s).

Position Responsibilities

  • Screening and examining patients to determine need for further health care and/or admission
  • Performing in office procedures such as laceration repair, foreign body removals, abscess drainage among others.
  • Ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, EKG’s, and any other studies necessary for the care of patients
  • Includes working 12 hour shifts in a busy fast-paced environment with multiple team members
  • Reviews and interprets the medical, surgical and social history of members
  • Evaluates laboratory, radiology, EKG, and other diagnostic data and develops appropriate plans and actions for follow-up, reconciles medications
  • Responsible for prescribing or performing various treatment modalities - including, but not limited to: medications, injections, wellness counseling, suturing and ancillary testing
  • Is compliant with OSHA, State Board of Healing Arts
  • Participates in all mandatory compliance and other training programs, seeks guidance for compliance-related concerns and adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Closely adheres to the Collaborative Practice Agreement with the collaborating physician.
  • Refers members to PCP, case management and disease management programs as necessary
  • Practices in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal laws which govern confidentiality and medical information privacy regulations (HIPAA)
  • Achieves clinical performance targets
  • Participates in different roles or interdisciplinary teams as assigned

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to demonstrate computer skills, including use of e-mail and Microsoft office word and excel
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective written communication skills including but not limited to writing reports and correspondence
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective verbal communication skills, including but not limited to speaking effectively to members, providers, families and staff and listening to members, providers and families
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, and use time effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working in an environment of change. Effectively copes with change and uncertainty; responds and "shifts gears" comfortably
  • Is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of both external and internal customers, acts with customers in mind

  • Baseline Clinical Knowledge

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and document the needs of clinically complex patients
  • Pertinent Clinical Work Experience which is relevant to population being served, including 2 years in a practice setting where procedures noted above were performed by the applicant.
  • Education
  • Master’s degree or higher in nursing and documentation of completion of accredited graduate level advanced practice education program

Licensure/Certifications

  • Missouri State Board of Healing Arts authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population
  • Licensure as a Physician Assistant by the Missouri State Board of Healing Arts
  • Current PA licensure in state of practice
  • Current BLS certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care is required. Obtaining ACLS and PALS certification through Phelps Health is required after hired.
  • DEA and CDS eligible
  • Travel Requirements: Travel required
  • Must meet company driving standards
  • Must have valid state driver's license and be able to drive a car
  • Must meet company's automobile liability insurance standards and provide proof of coverage
  • Must be able to independently travel to assigned locations in Rolla and Waynesville
  • Physical and Psychological Demands:
  • Requires prolonged sitting
  • Requires bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, crawling and/or stretching from seated or standing positions
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment, computer tablet, computer keyboard, telephone, copier, calculator and other office equipment
  • Requires close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust visual focus, hearing and smelling
  • Must be able to communicate information via telephone or computer
  • Requires moderate to intense concentration due to complexity of the job
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to observe "Universal Precautions" for blood-borne pathogens and body fluids
