Nurse Practitioner

Student Health Center

The Division of Enrollment Management and Student Experience invites applicants for a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Director of the Health Center.

The Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health care to students in our on-campus Student Health Center. Services include, but are not limited to: diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses and injuries, sexual health care, basic gynecological care, management of stable chronic conditions and preventive medical care. In addition to providing direct patient care with a significant emphasis on health maintenance and preventative measures, the nurse practitioner shares responsibility for the provision of high-quality health care in compliance with state, federal, and ambulatory care requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Provide primary care services of an acute, chronic and preventive nature to university student population as guided by organizational protocols and license to practice
• Complete and record accurate medical history and physical exam.
• Examine patients and diagnose their illnesses; recommend and administer routine treatment; refer patients when appropriate to other medical specialists.. (70%)
• Prescribe medication and/or treatments as indicated. (10%)
• Order and/or perform diagnostic tests and evaluate results.(5%)
• Maintain professional working relationships with co-workers.
• Maintain current licensure to practice, including timely completion of required continuing medical education.
• Seek and attend opportunities for ongoing professional development. (5%)
• Maintains organized, complete electronic medical records with regard to content appropriateness and confidentiality.. (10)%
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
• Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
• Two years or more of experience as a nurse practitioner providing direct medical care, preferably in a primary care setting

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a college or university health center
• Experience in the provision of health services to a college-age population
• Experience performing minor procedures
• Experience working as independent nurse practitioner.
• Experience delivering tailored health education and health promotion programming

Required Certifications:

• Current Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner licensure in state of Maryland
• Current (or eligibility for) DEA and state CDS licensure
• Current nurse practitioner certification in specialty area (family or adult health preferred)
• License, registrations and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic and care planning skills.
• Ability to work independently in most clinical situations.
• Ability to write prescriptions and order diagnostic testing.
• Skilled in the management of primary and acute care issues and injuries.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to relay appropriate health care education to students regarding plan of care and preventative measures.
