General Summary

• The Surgical Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
• The Surgical APP will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first-line provider to patients and their families. Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care.
• Takes patient history, performs physical examination, orders, and interprets tests, makes diagnoses, and institutes appropriate treatment programs.
• Works in collaboration with staff physicians, house officers, nurses, and other medical care team members to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently.
• Specific procedures are individually credentialed as indicated by training and experience.
• First or second assist in surgical cases.
• 8-12 hour shifts for primarity weekend coverage.
• inpatient coverage of general surgery, trauma, colorectal, plastic, vascular and thoracic patients.
• Responsible for daily rounding, admissions, discharges and consultations of ER and hospitalized patients.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Master's degree in Nursing OR Bachelor's Degree or Completion of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant program.

Certifications/Licensures Required

Certified Nurse Practitioner. Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Current ACLS or BLS as required. Current ATLS/PALS provider status as required. OR Requires Michigan state licensure and continued certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Current ACLS or BLS as required. Current ATLS/PALS provider status as required.
