Inpatient Advanced Practice Provider – MGH Lung Transplant Program
The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Lung Transplant Program is seeking an energetic and passionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP)—Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant—with a strong background and interest in internal medicine to join our dynamic and growing inpatient lung transplant service.
Lung transplantation remains the only therapeutic option for patients with end-stage lung disease and is a rapidly evolving field at the forefront of medicine. Our program is nationally recognized and built upon a tripartite mission of clinical excellence, education, and innovation in transplant science. We are the largest and fastest growing program in the region, and our clinical outcomes meet or exceed national metrics.
As an integral member of our multidisciplinary team, the APP will work collaboratively to ensure continuity of care for lung transplant candidates and recipients, with a primary focus on inpatient care—both pre- and post-transplant. This role is ideal for a provider who is enthusiastic about inpatient medicine, thrives in a complex and fast-paced clinical environment, and is committed to delivering compassionate, expert care.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an Independent Licensed Provider (ILP) managing the care of patients primarily in the inpatient setting.
- Conduct clinical assessments, formulate diagnoses, and manage care plans for lung transplant patients.
- Lead pre-transplant evaluations, including interpretation of diagnostics, identifying barriers to transplantation, and navigating patients through the evaluation process.
- Deliver comprehensive post-transplant care, including medical management, prevention strategies, and long-term follow-up.
- Serve as a liaison and central communicator among physicians, surgeons, ancillary services, patients, families, and outside facilities.
- Educate patients and families on complex aspects of transplant care, medication management, and lifestyle modifications.
- Clinical training and skills with a strong foundation in internal medicine.
- Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, collaboration, and patient-centered care.
- Ability to work both independently and as a vital part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organizational, communication, time management and problem-solving skills.
- Motivation to learn and grow within a high-acuity transplant environment.
- Master’s degree required.

- Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting
- Performs complete histories and physical examinations
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
- Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries
- Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
- Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
