Requirements Of The Position

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) will be responsible for diagnostic clarity and medication management of patients in need of psychiatric medication and/or addiction medication. In addition, this provider, under the supervision of a board certified addiction and internal medicine physician, will be responsible for new patient assessments which usually include addiction, psychiatric, and medical work-up and assessment with other non-psychiatric providers. Board certified psychiatrists are available for collaboration. Common addiction issues include: opioid use disorder (heroin), alcohol use disorder, benzodiazepine use disorder (xanax), stimulant use disorder (methamphetamines), along with other addiction disorders. Detoxification protocols are commonly implemented for addiction disorders including the use of buprenorphine for detox and maintenance (MAT) and education concerning MAT is available. Common psychiatric issues encountered include: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, agitation, insomnia, relationship and family challenges, and psychiatric issues related to addiction.

Candidates should have completed an accredited nurse practitioner program with added certification in mental health and possess an active license for the state of Tennessee including DEA license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric or medical evaluations and treatment of patients at facility under the supervisor of the Medical Director and work collaboratively with the medical/clinical staff under the guidelines of state licensure for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Participates in the formulation of patient's Master Treatment Plan.
  • Diagnose and treat acute, episodic or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team
  • Assesses physical and psychiatric health of patient and formulate measures to meet patient’s needs.
