Position Summary
- The Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients in a primarily outpatient setting.
- Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and their families.
- This role requires an advanced level of medical and nursing clinical knowledge, exceptional communication skills, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professionalism.
- The NP will work with administrative, nursing, physician, and cancer center staff to assure safe, effective, and high-quality patient care, providing care within his/her scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, licensing, regulations, and institutional policy.
- Demonstrate and apply knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, presentation, and epidemiology of medical conditions in the Hematology/Oncology specialty.
- Perform accurate, complete, and concise history and physical assessments appropriate for the patient's age, gender, and clinical problem.
- Order appropriate diagnostic studies and correctly interpret the results to inform the plan of care.
- Utilize critical thinking to synthesize and analyze collected data to formulate a diagnosis and management plan.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and modify patient care plans as needed.
- Manage general medical and oncologic conditions based on knowledge of the indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions, and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other treatment modalities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, concise, and timely documentation in electronic medical records.
- Demonstrate proficiency in procedural skills pertinent to the practice area.
- Provide care that is patient and family-centered, compassionate, appropriate, and effective for health promotion, illness prevention, and treatment of disease.
- Effectively counsel and educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, and symptom management.
- Facilitate consistent, coordinated care and clear communication among all members of the healthcare team.
- Incorporate the patient and family in care planning and treatment decisions across all settings.
- Serve as an advocate for patients and families navigating the complexities of the healthcare system.
- One (1) or more years of Hematology/Oncology experience is preferred. We are willing to train the right candidate with a strong clinical background and passion for oncology.
- Graduation with a Master's degree, DNP, or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted California RN and Nurse Practitioner license.
- Current National Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., AANP, ANCC).
- Current BLS Certification.
- Possession of a furnishing license.
- DEA license must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.
- Advanced clinical judgment and problem-solving skills to effectively meet the needs of patients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong self-direction and organizational skills to function effectively in an independent role.
- Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by team members, other professionals, and caretakers.
- Ability to meet minimum billing standards as a billable provider.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional overtime and a couple of weekends per year.
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic hematologic and oncologic illnesses.

- Commitment Bonus: If you sign a two-year commitment, you'll receive $12,000 in addition to your salary upon completion of 1 year of employment. If you fail to fulfill your two-year agreement, you agree to refund the client the full $12,000 on the last day of employment.
