- Setting: Orthopedic Surgery Unit, Acute Care
- Assignment Type: Locum tenens (Travel Nurse Practitioner Contract)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Duration: 13 weeks (potential extension)
- Schedule: Day shifts – 4x10 or 5x8 hour shifts per week
- Call: 1-2 nights per week and every third weekend
- Hours per Week: 40
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $4660 - $5000
- Lodging: Provided/coordinated for traveling healthcare professionals
Nurse Practitioner Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Oregon
- Board Certified Nurse Practitioner (required)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in acute care or orthopedic surgery settings
- Eligible for Medical Staff or Allied Health Professional membership and privileges
- Ability to work independently and effectively in high-acuity, emergent situations
- Full-time availability for locum tenens assignment
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Responsibilities
- Collaborate with attending physicians to prepare and record patient histories, develop and implement care plans, and participate in daily rounds
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies (EMG, EKG, compartment pressure measurements, x-rays, CT, MRI, bone scans, etc.)
- Perform advanced orthopedic procedures: digital blocks, regional anesthesia, wound closure, wound management, debridement, incision and drainage, needle biopsy, percutaneous pinning, k-wire and hardware removal
- Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including joint and bursa aspirations, closed reduction of fractures/dislocations, joint/tendon/bursa injections, and application of braces, casts, and splints
- Assist in orthopedic surgery (first assist, tissue closures, application of appliances, and delegated surgical tasks)
- Serve as primary orthopedic call for hospital patients in the Emergency Department and inpatient units, including weekday, weekend, and 24-hour call coverage
- Evaluate and clarify clinical conditions, implement treatment plans, and dictate discharge summaries, histories, and physicals
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, quality and safety initiatives, and respond to coding/documentation queries
