The Massachusetts General Hospital seeks a full-time nurse practitioner for a one-year training program in Addiction Medicine starting in June 2026. The Integrated Substance Use Disorder Training Program (ISTP) is a fellowship that aims to train nurse practitioners, psychologists, and social workers in team-based addiction care, especially in community-based settings.

The Nurse Practitioner Fellow will work with other ISTP trainees to provide inter-disciplinary care for people with substance use disorders in a community-based health center setting. The training program will provide clinical experience in a variety of placements including an inpatient addiction consult service, a low-threshold walk-in clinic, and outpatient dual-diagnosis programs for adolescents and adults. Training and mentorship will be provided by experienced addiction practitioners who are faculty of this program.

Requirements For Submission

  • Must submit three (3) letters of reference. Two out of the three must be from a supervisor or manager. Could include a professor, preceptor, or training program director.

Educational Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (PMHCNS).

Licensure & Experience Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Current DEA license.
  • Current MA Controlled Substances Registration (MCSR).
  • An interest in providing substance use disorder care in under-served, community-based settings.
  • Previous experience working with patients with substance use disorders (preferred)

  • Functions as an NP in department of rotations.
  • Provides patient diagnosis and treatment.
