Summary
This is a supervisory position within the Psychiatry Section and functions as the primary supervisor for assigned medical staff prescribers (psychiatrists - advanced practice registered nurses - and physician assistants). Supervises the prescribers working on Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) teams - Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) teams - and outpatient interventional psychiatry teams as applicable.

Duties
- Start - continue - or finish your career here | VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System Major duties and responsibilities of the position - 50% Clinical/50% Administrative: Develops - implements - and documents treatment of an outpatient panel of patients
- Provides medical support and at times cross coverage for assigned outpatient medical staff
- Complies with national and local performance measures - including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients
- Assumes complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings - patient care decisions - and documentation
- Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures - including timeliness standards for documentation and properly entering diagnostic and procedure codes
- Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the treatment teams in both BHIP and PCMHI
- Gap coverage and provision of triage care as required
- Coordination with any clinical pharmacists in their area as needed
- Supports site directors for academic affiliates in their coordination of trainees
- Clinically supervises assigned trainees and provides clinical coverage for trainees as needed
- General supervisory duties of assigned staff - to include ePerformance reviews - maintaining eCompetency folders - monitoring required trainings as TMS supervisor - addressing FMLA/RA requests as indicated
- Coordinates coverage and leave planning among direct reports and between sections as applicable with appropriate input from team leads
- Addressing leave requests and timecards in VATAS/GovTA
- Tracking educational leave for each staff member reporting to them in real time
- Routine clinic cancellation LEAFs first approval
- Callouts/Unplanned Sick Leave LEAFs clinical review
- Monitors individual labor mapping - grid management - scheduled clinic utilization - bookability - productivity/RVU targets - and other critical metrics for direct reports - with periodic updates reflecting adjustments to maximize patient access
- Addresses change of provider requests and open encounter follow up of assigned staff.
- Participates in leadership meetings - serves on committees and/or workgroups as assigned
- Responds to customer service concerns (PATS-R) - patient safety reports (JPSR) - and associated required reporting as assigned
- Uses advanced clinical judgment to independently provide evidence-based treatment to Veterans with acute or chronic mental illness including use of psychotropic medications - psychotherapy - and other modalities
- Provides patient and family education on medical/MH conditions - preventive measures - and prescribed treatments
- Demonstrates leadership and engages in collaboration with other MH and specialty care professionals while involving Veterans and their families (as appropriate) - in treatment plan development
- Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes
- Counsels and treats patients with substance use disorders
- Orders and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studies
- Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services
- Prescribe medications according to their scope of practice - and with appropriate training and certification provide interventional modalities to include rTMS - and esketamine

- Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application
- Former EDRP Participants are ineligible to apply for the program
