Position Description

Brewer, Maine: We invite a compassionate Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a school-based health program serving middle and high school students (grades 6–12) in the Brewer school district, just across the river from Bangor. This is a great opportunity to build strong relationships with students and families while practicing in a structured, supportive setting focused on prevention, early intervention, and access to care.

Pediatric NPs, Family NPs, and Physician Assistants are welcome. Confident new graduates are encouraged to apply. This is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

This progressive role is offered through Maine’s largest FQHC – a nonprofit community health center system employing nearly 1,000 people including more than 200 clinical providers across 17 practice sites. This nationally recognized organization is known for innovative community healthcare models and fully integrated services that support whole-person care, including family medicine, pediatrics, dental, geriatrics, mental health and substance abuse care, specialty services, pharmacy, and more. Help advance their mission of providing comprehensive, high-quality care to all, regardless of life circumstance, in a collegial environment where clinicians are supported, appreciated, and empowered to do their best work.

In this position, you will provide school-based primary care and episodic/urgent care for adolescents, supporting student wellness and readiness to learn in a structured setting with strong clinical and administrative support.

  • Provide direct primary care and episodic/urgent care to students in grades 6–12
  • Conduct health assessments, physical exams, and routine evaluations
  • Diagnose and treat common conditions and minor injuries
  • Provide health education, prevention, and counseling appropriate to adolescents
  • Coordinate referrals when needed, including dental referrals for students who need care (with support to help connect students to services)
  • Collaborate with school staff and health center leadership to support continuity of care
  • Help strengthen a mission-driven service line through a student-centered approach

Your schedule will generally be Monday–Friday (40 hours/week). When school is not in session (summer, holiday breaks, etc.) you will rotate to one of the health center’s Same-Day-Care services in and around Bangor. These practices provide primary care and urgent care services to established patients. Services may include suturing, splinting, managing abscesses, removal of soft tissue foreign bodies, etc. The result is a balanced practice where you maintain skills seeing patients of all ages, supporting long-term career mobility.

Compensation & Benefits

You will earn an excellent package that includes:

  • Competitive salary based on experience, with regularly scheduled increases
  • Sign-on bonus
  • Relocation assistance
  • Federal liability insurance
  • Health and dental insurance
  • Paid holidays and generous PTO
