Executive Director Position Description
Role Summary
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief administrative and strategic leader of the organization. The ED is responsible for advancing the mission, supporting the Executive Board of Directors, managing daily operations, and strengthening the visibility, influence, and sustainability of the organization. This is a 0.4 FTE salaried W-2 position, with an annual performance review and an hourly rate to be negotiated. Annual membership growth target: 10%.
Leadership & Strategic Direction
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the organization’s strategic plan in collaboration with the Executive Board.
- Provide visionary leadership that advances nurse practitioners across all practice settings.
- Ensure alignment between organizational initiatives, legislative priorities, and member needs.
- Represent the organization as a credible, mission-driven leader in state and national NP communities.
Advocacy & Government Relations
- Serve as the primary liaison to state legislators, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Lead advocacy efforts related to scope of practice, regulatory policy, reimbursement, workforce development, and professional standards.
- Prepare policy briefs, testimony, position statements, and legislative updates on issues affecting NPs.
- Build and maintain relationships with coalitions, partners, and policy influencers.
Organizational Management
- Oversee daily operations, including staffing, programs, events, communications, and administrative systems.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and governance requirements.
- Support committees and task forces by providing administrative structure, strategic guidance, and operational follow-through.
- Maintain organizational records, contracts, and operational policies.
Membership Engagement & Communication
- Strengthen member value through education, networking, policy updates, and practice resources.
- Maintain effective communication channels, including newsletter, website, social media, and legislative alerts.
- Build relationships with academic programs, employers, health systems, and national NP organizations.
- Monitor membership trends and implement strategies to achieve 10% annual growth.
Financial Oversight
- Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible stewardship.
- Grow revenue through membership, sponsorships, grants, educational events, and partnerships.
- Provide transparent, timely financial reports to the Executive Board.
- Ensure appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
Program Development & Education
- Lead development of continuing education offerings, annual conferences, leadership programs, and practice resources.
- Ensure all educational programs meet accreditation standards when applicable.
- Identify opportunities to expand services that support NP professional development and practice excellence.
Performance Evaluation
The Executive Director will undergo an annual performance review conducted by the Executive Board, assessing:
- Progress toward strategic goals
- Membership growth (target: 10%)
- Financial stewardship
- Advocacy impact
- Program quality and member satisfaction
- Operational effectiveness

The Nebraska Nurse Practitioners (NNP) organization is seeking an experienced, visionary, and mission-driven Executive Director to lead statewide efforts that advance the role, practice, and professional growth of Nurse Practitioners across Nebraska. This is a 0.4 FTE salaried W-2 position with an annual performance review and a negotiated hourly rate.
The Executive Director serves as the organization’s chief administrative and strategic leader, working closely with the Executive Board to strengthen advocacy, expand membership, and ensure the long-term sustainability of NNP. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, policy expertise, and a passion for elevating the NP profession.
Key Responsibilities

- Excellent communication, organizational, and financial management skills.
- Experience working with boards, committees, or member-driven organizations preferred.
Position Details
