Position Description
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our mental health team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care to patients, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. This role requires a strong understanding of psychopharmacology and the ability to work collaboratively within a clinical setting. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will play a crucial role in improving patient outcomes through effective medication management and therapeutic interventions. Candidates must be local, this position is hybrid with in-person requirement.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments for patients.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs.
- Prescribe medications and monitor their effects on patients.
- Provide psychotherapy and counseling to individuals and families as needed.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and ensure comprehensive treatment approaches.
- Document patient progress and treatment outcomes in accordance with clinic policies.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in psychiatric care, including ICD-10 coding practices.
- Participate in family planning discussions when appropriate, addressing the mental health aspects of reproductive health.
- Perform necessary procedures such as spinal taps when required in acute care settings.
Requirements
- Master's or Doctorate in Psychiatric Nursing
- Valid Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner board certification
- State licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and DEA registration in Iowa and Nebraska (or willing to obtain)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Experience in mental health assessments and treatment planning
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications and their effects
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care
- Understanding of ethical and legal standards in psychiatric care
- Ability to use Electronic Health Record
- Proficiency in psychopharmacology and experience with medication management for adults and children.
- Familiarity with ICD-10 coding for mental health diagnoses.
- Commitment to providing compassionate care while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Willingness to engage in continuous professional development to enhance clinical skills.
