On Tuesday, January 22, 2013 the Governor released his proposed 2013-2014 Executive Budget.  Included in the Health Budget proposal is language that would eliminate the written collaborative practice agreement and practice protocol requirements for primary care nurse practitioners, when the Department of Health and the State Education Department deem it appropriate.

Although not identical to the proposals the NPA has attempted to advance, this budget language makes it clear that Governor Cuomo has heard our voices through our representation at the Medicaid Redesign Team and our advocacy efforts. Even though this is just the first step in a complicated process, this is a huge victory of the NPA and for the profession in New York.

The Association will provide more details as they become available.  The NPA is following this issue closely and will be meeting with the Legislature and the Executive in the coming days.  Thank you to all who have contributed to our legislative efforts.  This progress would not have been possible without you.
