AANP E-Bulletin: News on Aetna Reimbursement for NPs and a Needed Call to Take Action!
AETNA CREDENTIALING/REIMBURSEMENT CHANGES AND SECOND REQUEST FOR ACTION
Aetna has announced that there will be a change in their corporate policy regarding NP provider credentialing and reimbursement effective June 2010. This change creates direct reimbursement for NP services, and primary care provider status in states that had not previously had this opportunity. The policy reimburses NP services at 85% of the physician rate for the same services. AANP celebrates the ability of patients to select the health care provider of their choice through the new credentialing process. AANP is interested in the effects that this may have on their Aetna patients and NP practices.
ACTION REQUEST: AANP is seeking feedback on how this Aetna policy will impact NP practice and patient care. Please forward your comments/feedback to http://aanponline.org/survey_aetna/. Your feedback will help inform AANP on this issue.
Additional information on the policy change is available at the Aetna website at http://www.aetna.com/provider/data/OLU_WT_MAR2010_fin.pdf (page 4). The Aetna credentialing site is http://www.aetna.com/healthcare-professionals/join-aetna-network/how-to-apply.html Per Aetna, these policy changes will not apply in the states of Alaska, Kansas, Maine and Missouri
