New Advisory Opinion: Role of the Nurse in Supervised Injection Services (SIS) Facilities

The Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission received a formal request from the Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA) requesting the commission to develop an advisory opinion to clarify the nursing scope of practice when participating in SIS and advise nurses of potential legal challenges to provide nursing services in those circumstances.

No such facilities exist in Washington state or the U.S. at this time. The advisory opinion was approved by the commission on May 8, 2020.
