Duties/Responsibilities

· Examine patient, take medical history, record results, and make preliminary diagnosis or decides on follow-up procedures

· Administer and order diagnostic tests and interpret test results

· Perform therapeutic procedures

· Exercise professional judgment regarding consultation with supervising physicians concerning appropriate treatment

· Develop and implement patient care plans, instruct and counsel patients and families, and record progress

· Prescribe medications to the extent allowable by state guidelines and clinic regulations

· Provide general health education

· Assist physician with treatment and more complex procedures

Required Skills/Abilities

Physician Assistants

· Bachelor's degree through an accredited physician assistant program and 1 year of clinical training; OR

· Completion of a 2-year accredited physician assistant program (which requires 2 years of undergraduate study) plus 2 years of clinical training following completion of PA program

· Current Texas Physician Assistant license

Nurse Practitioner

· Must be a graduate of an accredited advanced practice register nursing program (APRN)

· Certification through a recognized accrediting agency

· Current Nurse Practitioner license with the Texas Board of Nursing

· Minimum 2 years of experience in area of assigned sub-specialty

· Membership and active participation in professional organizations are beneficial

· Knowledge of growth and development from birth through adolescence

· Ability to learn new skills in a timely manner

· Flexibility and adaptability to change

· High level of analytical ability and critical thinking skills

· Create and maintain effective working relationship with hospital staff peers, medical staff, and administration
