What inspired you to become a nurse practitioner?

After completing my Master's in Nursing Leadership, I knew that I was not done.   I decided to pursue a career as a Nurse Practitioner in 2019.  After a year in Pediatrics, I decided that I wanted my Doctorate in Nursing Practice in Pediatrics.

What is your background and how did you develop your skill set?

My nursing background started in High-Risk obstetrics where I trained from the emergency room, labor and delivery, operating room, intensive care, and post-anesthesia care, also spent time in postpartum with couplet care and antepartum with long term care.  Some of my other experiences outside OB was Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, and Step-down. I used my Master's degree in the Education department.  I was responsible for educating nurses in my charge, coordinating education opportunities, and orienting them to various areas of the hospital.  I have been in Pediatrics now for 7 years, in the Operating Room, and I have loved every minute.

What NP School do you attend?

UAMS College of Nursing.  I am enrolled in the Dual-Track DNP Pediatric Acute/Primary Care program.

What is your biggest success to date?

My biggest success to date? As a Christian, wife, mother, and full-time nurse, my most significant success is the progress I have made.  None of what I have done has been without prayer. I have shown my children that if you want it, work hard for it.

What has been your biggest challenge?

My own doubts and fears.  I don't doubt that I can do something, but I still have fears.  The challenge is telling those doubts and fears that they don't have control, and they won't stop me.

What inspires you to hit the ground running each morning?

I have quiet time every morning.  It is through the Word that I find inspiration to keep going. I also have a powerful support system of friends and family that take every opportunity to remind me how proud they are and not to give up.

What’s an interesting fact that most people don’t know about you?

I don't back down from a challenge. I'm not competitive.  However, I don't like being told that I might be able to do something when I haven't been allowed to try.

When you’re not working, what is your favorite thing to do?

I have several things that I enjoy doing: spending time with family and friends, as we have rabbits, which makes for fun family time; running, cycling, swimming, fishing, and traveling
