Call to Action from Valerie J Fuller, Pres AANP
Dear NCNPC members,
In 2025, Congress passed HR 1, the "Big Beautiful Bill Act," which required the Department of Education to implement a provision to create different yearly and lifetime loans for graduate and professional students. The Department of Education has proposed--but not yet implemented--classifying Advanced Nurse Practitioner (APN) programs as graduate non professional degree programs. We find this unreasonable as Advanced Nurse Practitioners fully comply with all aspects of professional degree programs. Limiting funding for BSN to APNs diminishes and decreases qualified providers for all Americans.
Yesterday I listened to the President of AANP, Valerie J Fuller, talk about a call-to-action to support Advanced Practice Nursing workforce and students.
The concerns listed on the AANP Advocacy Center web page are important to consider, however the first three seem to be the most urgent at this time:
- Support the ANP Workforce and Students
- Urge Your U.S. Representative to Support Federal funding for Nurse Practitioners
- Support Legislation Authorizing NP Patient Inclusion in Shared Savings ACO's..
AANP has written an advocacy letter in which we strongly urge you to sign as the future of ANPs going forward.
